BS and MS in Kinesiology, an expert in qualitative human movement assessment and corrective exercise programming

 

Well-Fit opens its first Pilates studio, offering private and semi-private classes

Vered Arbel is an instructor at the Kinesiology and Nutrition Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Arbel earned both her BS and MS in kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and currently pursuing her PhD in Biomechanics at the kinesiology Department at UIC. Prior to working at UIC, she had a lifelong career as a professional ballet dancer, choreographer, and business owner in the health and fitness industry. She developed and taught Pilates and fitness fusion programs as well as certification courses and continuing education workshops for fitness and health professionals. Her certifications include: certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), STOTT PILATES Certified Lead Instructor Trainer, and teaching certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance in England.

With over 30 years of professional experience she brings her expertise in qualitative human movement assessment. Arbel’s specialty is core stability, qualitative human movement analysis, postural analysis, fitness assessment and corrective exercise training.

Currently, she is serving as a co-investigator on a R01 NIH proposal “Identifying and addressing biomechanical barriers to physical activity after total hip replacement.” Her role in the research is to develop the progressive hip abductor strengthening intervention.

She is also involved in a multi-stages research project as the principal investigator examining the influence of weight bearing lower extremities range of motion training on the prevalence of injuries, enhancement of performance and functionality in general population and collegiate athletes.

Aside from these areas of focus, she is particularly interested in curriculum development to provide interdisciplinary approaches to the study of kinesiology and enrich students’ knowledge and learning outcomes through inventive and interactive learning models. She developed a new Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA’s) collaborative training program with the UIC Recreation Center.

She serve as the education committee chair of Exercise Is Medicine On Campus, a collaboration between the Kinesiology & Nutrition department, Recreation Center and UI health system to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health. She is also a Co-Chair for the Personal Fitness Training Educational Institutions State Clinic conference.
